Introduction: We all know that smoking is injurious or bad for health. Yet, young men and women are found puffing a cigarette and throwing out smoke at the company in which they are.
What is smoking?
Smoking refers to the process of burning a substance (tobacco, drugs, etc.) and inhaling the resultant smoke.
The major forms of smoking tobacco includes cigarettes, smoking pipes, cigars, etc. A cigarette is a thin roll of tobacco is rolled in a paper. A smoking pipe is a thin tube used to inhale smoke, produced by burning tobacco in a bowl that is attached to it. A cigar is a tight roll of of tobacco leaves used for smoking.
Causes why people start smoking:
Fun and curiosity: Young people first begin smoking to get fun out of it. There is a curiosity among young adult and teenagers about the taste of a cigarette. Then, the gun takes the shape of a showmanship and in due course of time they find that they have got addicted to smoking and cannot give it up.
They often develop the habit of chain smoking. It sometimes, begins with just a few cigarettes a day, then it becomes a few packets a day and some turn into chain smokers – one out, the other is lighted.
Smoking effects on body
Cigarette smoking is dangerous for human health. Cigarettes contain nicotine, along with tobacco and it is this nicotine which makes one addicted to smoking.
Addictive: Cigarettes contains nicotine and it is highly addictive. It has an intoxicating effect and once a man’s nerves catch this intoxication, the nerves keep on needing it and one feels lethargic and dull without a puff because the nerves are constantly asking for the kick. Smoking is highly addictive.
Very difficult to give up: The habit of smoking, once formed is hard to be given up.
There have been and are many educated professionals whose pen would move only when they are puffing out. Without that puff their mind, as if goes to rest and would not work.
The worst negative effect of smoking is that it can cause life life-taking disease in human body. People know it, still they go on with it.
Lungs disease: Nicotine is an element which slowly and gradually passes on and gets deposited in the nerves and in the lungs. This gradual deposition causes lung diseases such bronchitis, bronchial asthma, tuberculosis.
Heart attack: Smokers even can have their arteries blocked with nicotine which can cause a heart attack.
Say no to Smoking
Be confident and say ‘no’ to smoking. Stop smoking to save money to stand you in good stead is also a useful motto. Habit of smoking cigarette ends in addiction at last. So, it is the best way of not indulging in smoking is not to smoke the first cigarette. For a socially conscious man, it is not at all a hard job to master sufficient mental strength to turn the cigarette between his lips into the last cigarette of his life because then he can reap some positive harvests of life.
This is, thus, a great menace to health and the upcoming, growing young men must understand the risks involved. They can, well in time learn the lesson and let them not allow themselves to fall a prey to this ‘disease’ – it is really a ‘disease’ which one it catches can aggravate into any proportion.
Life is a gift given by God, let us live it well, let us live it healthily and health is happiness.

According to the American Heart Association there are an estimated 50 million Americans who smoke (1). Smokers say, by smoking relieves them of stress and relaxes and comforts them. In recent years it has been proven that the only thing smoking does is shorten a person's life. Despite, all the warnings by the surgeon general that quitting smoking may greatly reduce serious risks to your health, people still manage to find a excuse to quit smoking (American Heart Association 1).
Furthermore, the hazardous ingredients in cigarette tobacco has many dangerous effects on your health and the health of others.
First of all, there are many hazardous ingredients in cigarette tobacco. Some of the ingredients are poisonous and addictive. Cigarette smoke produces thousands of chemicals that are hazardous to a smoker's health. There are over 4000 chemicals produced by a burning cigarette. At least 200 chemicals are known to be poisonous to people health (Clayman 50). Filters help to block and reduce some of the chemicals, but they will not stop them completely.
Nicotine is addictive also one of the most dangerous ingredients in cigarette tobacco. In fact, the President of the United States, has recently declared nicotine an addictive (CNN 2).
